Today the Lugano Lakers Senior team played the Thun Tigers (from Thun) which is not too far from Interlaken. They lost :-(
19-7, but played tough. Since they won all last year, they were moved up from series C to series B, so it's only natural that the opponents this year will be tougher.
A funny story:
A few days ago I took a hike up the mountain behind our house. There is a small mountain peak up from the church, and on top of this peak, among the trees, is a large, white cross. So I'm hiking up (I hadn't been all the way to the cross since last year) and I know I'm going in the right direction, but then the path seemed to end. I stopped and looked around and saw a path a few yards up ahead and began to take that. On my right was this small peak where I expected to find the cross. I looked up, and although I didn't see the cross from where I was, I did see a man up there. That must be the place if someone is up there.
I continued up, but this other path ended. I could still see the man up there, so I just headed up the slope in the forest with my hiking poles. It was quite steep and I was being careful not to slip. I thought: "the other path I had taken last year must have been on the other side. I didn't remember it being this difficult."
So I finally make it to the top, and then felt really stupid. This was a little 'spit' of a summit, about 8 feet square, and there I was with this other guy in this small spot! I'm sure he was wondering what the heck I was doing there! I said (in Italian) "oh, I obviously went the wrong way! I was trying to get to the cross!"
"Signora, the cross is the next little peak right over there, up from that little cabin."
"But now I'm quite afraid to walk down! I don't want to fall! Is there a better way down from here?"
"I think you need to just go down the way you came. You have hiking poles. Just lengthen them and it will be easier".
So I made it down easier than I thought and finally made it to the cross, but gosh, I regretted not asking this man "And what the heck are YOU doing on this little spit of a summit!"
Which proves my point about Switzerland.... no matter where you go hiking, you will come across another hiker! It's not scary in Switzerland - there is always someone coming around who can help! Even on this stupid little mountain summit!!
Odds & Ends
To add to my collection of funny names .... This women's store we actually found in Chambery, France. Ikks??
There is a model of Toyota here called the Picnic! I don't think we have that one in the US.
There are quite a number of good movies shown on TV here. The problem is that they come on SO late! It seem that 9pm or 11pm is the movie prime time. By the time it's over it's past my bedtime! We don't have anything to record a show. :-( Even the Italian version of The Voice begins at 9:15 and goes to about 11:30 - and this is a show the whole family can watch. Why so late??
Trends: I have noticed people jogging outside for exercise. Never used to see joggers.
As the weather warms, I'm seeing more young women wearing short shorts. When we lived here 10 years ago, I NEVER saw anyone but a tourist in shorts. On top of that, they are wearing nylons with their shorts. Is that the trend in the states too? If not, I'm sure it will be.
