May 4, 2017 Locarno, Ascona, Bellinzona

A grey day with periods of rain, we decided to get a transportation day pass and go to the Locarno area, on Lake Maggiore, where there was less rain. We went to several second-hand shops, as these are interesting to see - to see the odd, old items they have - in a foreign country.
We were fortunate that the sun came out over Ascona and we had lunch outside by Lake Maggiore. We didn't think that would be possible today!
The ducks were so docile and let us take pictures up close.

On the way home we stopped in Bellinzona for a hour. I still find it so impressive to see  this HUGE castle rising right up in the middle of town!
After Bellinzona we stopped in the town of Rivera, where there is a large second hand shop near the station. I bought an old cow bell! I love it!
