May 5, 2017 - I hike to the top of a mountain!

A sunny day today! Rick and I walked from our apartment in Pregassona and took the path up the mountain to the town of Cureggia. From there we followed the path to the town of Bré and then to the top of Monte Bré! It took us 2 hours and 15 minutes for the hike, and the first time I began at the bottom and hiked to the very top of a mountain! Yeah! I've done parts of this hike a number of times, but never the whole thing at once. I've also taken some of these same pictures before, but I still love to snap a picture of my favorite views!
View of the snowcapped mountains from the town of Cureggia. This is thanks to all the recent rain we had been having!
From Cureggia, the tallest mountain in Switzerland, Monte Rosa, looms on the horizon. What a spendid sight!
This is one of the most picturesque views in the Lugano area, taken from the steps that lead to the top of Monte Bre, looking back down on the town of Bre, Lake Lugano below, and Italian Alps in the distance.
The view again, a little further up the steps.
Looking back down on the Lugano area. We began our hike at the bottom of Monte Boglia - the mountain on the right. The town of Cureggia can be seen on the lower part of the side of that mountain. It took us 50 minutes to hike just up to Cureggia. Then we followed the path up and along the side of Monte Boglia, to the town of Bre.
There is a restaurant on the front side of Monte Bre, (Ristorante Vetta Monte Bre) but we packed a lunch and took a little path to the right of the restaurant. The narrow terraced slope on the front of the mountain gave us a perfect spot for our picnic lunch! Usually I see goats in this area, but none today.
These mountains are breathtaking! The Matterhorn is actually a tiny point somewhere to the right of Monte Rosa.
Our great viewpoint sitting on the little terrace.
My turn to be in the picture!
My sandwich selfie!
A great panoramic of Lake Lugano.
The pointy mountain across the lake is Monte San Salvadore.
Rick, looking towards the west from Monte Bre.
We then hiked back down to the town of Bre where we took the bus back to Lugano. I was almost feeling enough energy to try the hike down, but Rick had to get back in order to coach the football team this evening. Maybe another day!
