April 2 - Davesco mudslide and April 3 hike near Arosio, Ticino

This morning we hiked down the mountainside to the main road that leads to Sonvico. This past fall, along this road under the town of Davesco, there was a devastating mudslide. We went to take a look at it. Last summer and fall there was a lot of rain in the area, and the wall of the mountain gave way at the foundation of the building on top. The mud and trees came pouring down on top of a house that was situated at the bottom, crushing the house and killing 2 women. Very sad...

You can see where the foundation of this building is now exposed. The building is still in use - I'd be afraid!

On April 3 we had rented a little Smart car for the Easter weekend. We took a drive up the very winding road to Arosio. From the town we could see a large meadow on another mountain top nearby and took a hike up! During our hike we stopped at a Grotto restaurant called Sgambada. Excellent Osso Buco!

At the top of the meadow, with Arosio on the other mountainside about in the middle of the picture.

Just love the spring flowers!

Every mountain reminds me of the Sound of Music!

Those cute Swiss cows along the way!

We then drove part of the ring road around this high valley, which is called Malcantone. Here Rick takes a look at the town of Breno.

I love how most property is open to  hikers. Here the farmer installed two benches into the hill.
